Roatan Backpackers Hostel

Yoga Roatan

Sandy bay (a great location) now has a hostel the Sandy Bay Backpackers. Check out some of the TripAdvisor reviews here >> Dorm rooms at an affordable price. This is one of the best locations you could be in to explore the island and yet remain close to the activity in the west end.

Paya Bay Resort

Located towards the eastern end on the nothern shore is an area called Rep├║blika Paya ! Its what they nicknamed their resort area (22 acres) of palms beaches and calmness..
It also is where you can get based to do some kitesurfing from or visit pigeon cay just off the south shore of Barbaretta the islet east of Roatan.

You get a quick sense that Yoga mantras and relaxation are what makes this place what it is. Its probably not openly called a retreat but it looks like it could be.

Camp Bay Beach Dive Resort

An alternative to Roatan's west end.

Based out in the east end is a unique proposition a world away from the bohemian west end is camp bay. Campbay is a community in the east end and occupies the norther shore of Roatan. You can't really get much further east by road anyway. Fly fishing and sport fishing is also offered as well as kayaking through the mangrove swamps and some interesting hiking - and yes of course scuba diving courses and just plain excellent fun diving.

The food is Honduran American mix at the tasty tarpon and over the dinner table the discussion rages on about if the best thing about diving here is the topography (underwater layout) or reef and fish life.

They offer 6 to a room if your on a budget and like this style of accomodation like hosteling really something quite new to Roatan.

2 Bedroom cabana.

Beach Front Rooms if your unlucky not to reserve the Cabana.

Basic Double Rooms.

Cocolobo Resort

The group of lodges was designed in 2005 by an award-winning young British environmental architect. Full advantage has been taken of local building materials, skills and knowledge.

Honey-colored Honduran pine is used throughout for construction, complemented by local hardwoods for doors, furniture and trim. Enjoy the natural light breezes that are characteristic of the island. "Breezeways" between the rooms in the east and west lodges channel air into the bedrooms.

The east and west lodges house four bedrooms apiece. Guest rooms are spacious and uncluttered with closets, storage space and refrigerator. Floors and ceilings are wooden and furnishings are in high quality cottons and natural fabrics. All rooms have flat screen televisions and cable connections. And bring your i-Pod: rooms have speakers supplied so you can enjoy your favorite music!

Between the lodges lies the central building, with just two bedrooms overlooking the pool and the Caribbean. The bar - which has slide-back doors on three sides to take full advantage of the climate and the views - is where breakfast is served from 7.30am to 9.30am. In the afternoon and evening, the bar and deck provide the gathering point for guests and early evening cocktails.
