If you have never taken a holiday like this then read on. If you have then please comment on your experiences in an email to us and we may publish it on this website.
A Roatan vacation rental is when you rent out a whole property or unit of a property from an individual. There are sometimes companies which manage the rental for you sometimes it can be through a website such as this one or both. In all cases the care to be taken is mostly common sense but there are some things to do which makes things better all round and this advice is given below.

Why do a holiday or vacation like this ? People express an opinion that they feel more at home in a vacation rental and the cost of getting a similar standard of living in a resort or hotel is out of reach for most. Some will be pet friendly may have swimming pools and generally be very suitable for a week or longer vacation.

Some things you should do with your booking.

Check and be careful what method of payment you use.

You should take the same kind of care as you would do normally when paying for things online. They may ask you to make a significant deposit to protect themselves from cancelations by you which is normal. The method used to take this money should not be via any instant wire services, such as Western Union or Moneygram .These services offer no purchase protection in the event of a dispute. If a manager or owner insists that you pay via wire transfer be firm – this is probably not legitimate and may not even be the manager.

Make sure there is a rental agreement.

Rental agreements will likely include the following information: arrival/departure dates, payment details like deposit and any extra charges there may be like air con, occupancy limits, pet policies, and cancellation/refund policies.

Keep in contact with the Rental Manager

Try to get the owner on skype if a traditional telephone is going to be too costly. If they cant be reached within a decent time frame consider to find another property.
You should have been speaking with the owner / manager since the original contact enquiry. Make sure to ask about details and don’t feel like you are taking up their time. They owe you a duty of care to provide you with all the information you need. Most normally they will have a welcome pack emailed across to you with details but likely this wont answer all of your concerns and questions. It will cover things like check-in/check-out, driving/parking directions, linens/towels, and an emergency contact. If you are unable to get in touch with the manager or owner via phone, it is recommended that you find an alternative property.
