Travel Tips: Roatan is a very nice Caribbean island with outstanding beaches. Continental and Delta fly direct to the island from the States. Great snorkeling and diving. Most of this footage was taken in West Bay Beach. There is a lot of development and the island is changing pretty fast. However, the electricity situation is spotty and rolling black-outs are common in the afternoon. The nice resorts have back-up generators.

US dollars are gladly accepted but beware that ATMs are hard to find and may be empty or dead (when the electricity goes out). The best idea is to bring whatever cash you'll need. English is commonly spoken along with Spanish and Creole. Be aware that cruise ships dump tons of people off on to the beaches every so often - but they leave in the evening. Bring bug spray because the sand flies will eat you alive. This is especially true if you are pale, apparently. Some cab drivers will rip you off if you don't know how much taxi rides should cost. Ask around before you grab a cab. And don't forget, you'll need about $35 US per person to leave the country at the airport. Stupid Honduras tax. Also, DO NOT use your cell phone. Checking my voicemail for two minutes cost me $10. Another Honduras rip off. Avoid the rainy season: October through January.
