that training was certainly set up ahead of time. I dont think there are any rebreather instructors on the island. i dont know of anywhere that carries sorb or sofnolime either (scrubber material). i know that carl, the submarine guy, uses it to clean the air in the sub, but dont know whether its appropriate for rebreathers, or where he gets it, probably special order from the states. finally, i dont know of any rebreather units on the island, personal or rental. rebreather divers would probably have to ship their own units and scrubber down ahead of time. gas is no prob, coconut tree is set for for trimix and any kind of nitrox, but depending on the tank size needed, you would need to bring your own O2 clean cylinder(s), only alum 80's are generally available here, kinda big for rebreather use.
the next island over, utila, does have rebreather training. UDC (utila dive college) can train you on the drager dolphin/atlantis (not sure about the ray) semi closed circuit rebreathers. i think they also can train you for the buddy inspiration (dont know about the new evolution) closed circuit unit, but im not sure if they have extra units available, you may need to provide your own. rebreather training is model-specific, each with its own class, you cant just get certified on rebreathers in general.
hope this helps, feel free to ask if you need more info.
