not a fish
«

This was first spotted by nick from west end divers, than collected and photographed by mel here at Ocean Connections.. no idea what it is
Had a close look with a magnifying glass but could see no bumps, glands, gills or anything. MOves pretty fast and similar to a leech headshield slug, also about the same size as a juvenile leechhead, no more than 4 cm long. Was first spotted in Sep? and than photographed in december. Have seen it lately and there is no change in size or color... Anyone have any ideas?
If anyone is wondering, yes we did put it back where we found it.

and is that black in the middle part of it's "flesh"

no fins, tentacles or anything, the black part in the middle is just a color difference as far as i can tell
There are easy to find and there are usually more than one in the same area. Look for them in or near reddish colored algae in rubble or sand areas.
