31  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / Money Paid for underwater dive photos off of roatan. on: September 04, 2006, 09:11:00 AM
If you have a range of photos in roatan we would be interested to buy them for use.

We would consider paying up to 200$ for a big set of good quality photos we would get full license to use.

reply preferably "off topic" in a personal message or just reply to this message to let me know.

thanx...
32  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / FUBAR is located in the west end... on: September 03, 2006, 12:22:14 PM
FUBAR is what used to be called the black pearl and before that loafers. It is towards Lunar Beach Resort from the heart of west end .It is right on the beach so if you walk in the right direction you will hit it. You might also follow the white baloons.

34  Fishes of the Bay Islands / Fishes of the Bay Islands / Sargassum Trigger Fish at Texas on: August 28, 2006, 07:40:57 AM
Apparently only found at Texas on the point of our lovely island of Roatan the Sargassum Trigger Fish. Found one 3 together this sunday at the end of the dive where the site is more rubble fields and individual coral heads.

Indeed these guys were circling one in particular. My computer by this time wouldnt let me go get a closer look.
I was testing out the very sexy mares nemo !

I would like to do a whole dive around where the end of this dive is maybe by way of nitrox.

Yes , sounds like you are in a fight situation.

I might say the port captain may be bad at his job, but that would not be me and if it were me I may also say otherwise. If I did not say otherwise It could also mean that it was a sporadic outbust which has been know to happen from time to time. I just wanted to clarify that and to remove any ambiguity from my comments (which I will let you know later) were made sporadicly or otherwise.

My dear Calvin, I believe look that fish up in one of the many id books abouot you find that it is in fact a "shark sucker"-a member of the remora family.   Tongue
You asked me for some replies. Grin

39  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / Re: Cheer Me Up! on: August 24, 2006, 07:52:23 AM
Of course you will know the black pearl as loafers.

OLD SKOOL

Look forward to the full moon party, I think the island needs to regain some of it's party spirit. If you doubt there are people here who like that anyone just rock up to fosters on a friday night.
40  ROATAN DIVING / Marine Park Chat / Re: Coca-Cola Clandestinos on: August 24, 2006, 07:48:57 AM
I have as we all have seen the amount of trash the island generates and plastic is by no means easy to dispose of. Every time I take a plastic cup on the dive boat or at sundowners to walk with I think that it is bad.

It is bad because that is generating trash and generating a need for the plastic cup to be made in the first place. We think of these things as disposable, once its in the trash (if it makes it that far) we forget.

Did you know a big plastic derivative is actually crude oil ! Time to get reaquinted with everybodys mouth germs  Lips sealed and don't use the disposable cups.

On the bottle subject good for the marine park and for the island ultimately, going beyond the call of duty, but I know you are a dutiful man greg and you have MY support.

Lets remember the island is growing in population and the infrastructure isnt there, I feel we see this in the electric cuts and so on.

Save and reuse where you can...I'm off to find a tree to hug.

41  Fishes of the Bay Islands / Fishes of the Bay Islands / jaw fish [yellow head jaw fish] on: July 24, 2006, 12:01:47 PM
I have been playing with (rather terrorizing) jawfish recently. As you creep up on them they skillfully swim backwards into their homes, but if you go slow get close then race up on them I found they turn first then dart inside their holes.

This suggests to me that they are better swimmers going forwards than backwards...
Let me know if you try this what results you get.

I find these fish really amazing with the ghostly coloured skirt and their homes (holes) in the sand. Apparently they have one for the man one for the woman and a honeymoon suite ,so 3 holes. Thanks Dorte from tylls diving for that info.
42  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / How to get to SUNJAM from roatan on: July 17, 2006, 09:12:20 AM

43  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / evening dives anyone? NOT night dive. on: July 16, 2006, 03:23:31 PM
Does any shop offer , or would any dive shop be willing to offer evening diving in the week for those of us who work.

If anyone is frustrated like me that they are pressured to dive at the week end only as to "get some in" because they cant dive at the week end here, register on the site and reply to this message.

If you are a dive shop who might consider doing this on any basis please reply also.

thanks
44  Fishes of the Bay Islands / Fishes of the Bay Islands / peackock flounder on: July 10, 2006, 07:21:04 AM

I saw this on the lighthouse point this week end while swimming between west end and half moon bay.
I have never seen a flunder here before!
45  ROATAN DIVING / General Discussion / Plagued by an alien fish ! on: July 04, 2006, 07:57:38 AM
This week end had a new experience there was the 2 foot long thing swimming round us and acting aggressive! It was a little freaky in a weird way, it followed us and was getting close to my face on many occasions.

It turns out it was a remora..such a weird looking thing with the ribs on its iron shaped head.

This was seen on the newly moored byt the marine park "seagrape escape" There are also a ton of massive arrow crabs here, this is the thing I am seeing most in the water right now.
